The terms for using DesiData's catalogue, tools, and community.

These Terms of Service apply when you visit or use DesiData at www.desidata.in, including its dataset catalogue, previews, downloads, APIs, Python package, notebooks, AI integrations, and community features (together, the Service). By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
DesiData is an open catalogue for finding and exploring India-focused datasets. Questions about these terms can be sent to hello@desidata.in.
You can browse the catalogue and use public search and preview features without an account. Some features, such as tracked website downloads, favourites, or community participation, may require you to sign in. Keep your account credentials secure and provide accurate information when you use account features.
If you are under 18, use account features only with any consent or authorization required from a parent or lawful guardian. Our Privacy Policy explains how account information is handled.
Dataset records may include descriptions, source links, licence information, row counts, file details, and small previews. These details are provided to help you evaluate a dataset; they may be incomplete, out of date, or contain errors. Check the original source and its current terms before relying on or redistributing a dataset.
DesiData does not claim ownership of third-party datasets and does not grant rights to them. The licence or terms provided by the original publisher govern your use of each dataset. You are responsible for confirming that your intended use is allowed, including in research, commercial products, or AI systems.
Some website downloads require sign-in. Programmatic downloads through the DesiData API or Python package require a DD_TOKEN created in your DesiData profile. Keep the token private, store it in an environment variable or secret manager, and revoke it if you believe it has been exposed. Do not place it in public code or AI conversations.
You may not bypass authentication, rate limits, or other technical controls, or use the Service in a way that disrupts it or materially burdens its infrastructure.
DesiData's AI integrations can search published catalogue records, return dataset details, show limited CSV previews, and provide notebook links or example code. They do not provide full dataset files through the preview tools. Full downloads use the regular DesiData download flow and your own DD_TOKEN where required.
AI-generated explanations or code examples may be incomplete or inaccurate. Verify dataset details against the source and licence, and review generated code before running it. You are responsible for decisions and work based on information from the Service.
When using the Service, you must not:
If you submit comments, suggestions, or other material through a community feature, you remain responsible for that material. Do not include confidential information, personal data about someone else, or material you do not have permission to share. You give DesiData permission to host, display, and moderate your submission as needed to operate that feature. Community submissions may be visible to the public.
The DesiData name, logo, website design, and software belong to DesiData or its licensors. These terms do not transfer ownership of them to you. Third-party services and datasets remain subject to their own terms and licences.
We work to keep the Service useful and available, but features, records, and integrations may change or be unavailable. We may suspend access when reasonably needed to protect the Service, users, or third parties, or to address misuse. We may update these terms by posting a new version here and changing the date above. Your continued use after an update means you accept the updated terms.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the Service and its catalogue information are provided on an “as available” basis. DesiData does not promise that every record is accurate, complete, current, suitable for a particular purpose, or continuously available. Dataset-specific rights and risks remain with the original source and applicable licence.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, DesiData is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the Service or a dataset. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a right or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
